A dissertation is no ordinary print job: it's extensive, the faculty has formal requirements, and besides the reviewers' copies the university library usually requires deposit copies. Good to have a copyshop that isn't doing this for the first time.

Hardcover or perfect binding?

Both have their place: the hardcover — embossed on request — is the classic choice for submission and library copies. For larger runs the perfect binding is the economical alternative with a clean book character. Often the two are combined: a few hardcovers for the mandatory copies, perfect binding for the rest. Let's sort out your doctoral regulations together before anything is printed.

Plan the run, don't guess it

Deposit copies for the library, copies for reviewers, the committee, yourself and your family — dissertations quickly add up to a double-digit run. For doctorates at the University of Jena, the ThULB requires three printed copies plus an electronic version, or eight printed copies — with perfect binding mandatory and ring binding excluded (see our guide on thesis submission in Thuringia). Do clarify the details with your dean's office or examination office — regulations differ by faculty. Then tell us the number from your doctoral regulations and we'll produce every copy in consistent quality.
